Monroe Piercings

Monroe piercings, also called  the "Madonna piercing" the "mole piercing" ,are  usually done on the upper lip.

The piercings are pierced with a labret stud, usually 14 gauge. (a labret post or labret stud, is a flat backed piece of jewelry with a bead.)

These piercings sometimes swell during their healing process, so for the first few months, the piercee is stuck with a longer bar on their labret stud. This can be changed later for a smaller and more comfortable labret stud.

Improper placement of this piercing can cause gum erosion, so its always best for the piercee to get it done professionally.

As for why? Its a personal decision. Its just like any other piercing.
